Written by Cormac McCarthy (The Road), directed by Ridley Scott, The Counselor sees its first trailer premiere this morning giving you a first look at the film’s stars, which include Michael Fassbender, Javier Bardem, Cameron Diaz, Penelope Cruz and Brad Pitt due in theaters on October 25.
The story centers on a present-day Southwest lawyer (Fassbender) who thinks he can dip a toe into the drug business without getting sucked down. A bad decision. He tries his best to survive it and get out of a desperate situation, but can he?
I recently posted some updated Oscar predictions and someone that saw an early cut of the film left the following note in the comments:
Saw early cut of “The Counselor” (Ridley’s still working on it) and can only say that Diaz is absolutely fantastic. The closest to this performance of hers is “Vanilla Sky”. But she’s much more dangerous here, very sociopathic. Underneath all this sexiness there’s something very dark and she absolutely nails it. I won’t comment on the movie itself cause it’s still in post-production but another performance you need to watch out from the movie is Bardem. He’s awesome! He’s so over the top but in a good way. Oh, and the work of Pitt is very sublime but I have a feeling he’s gonna be overshadowed by Bardem ([Bardem’s character] is bigger than life) during awards season. Shame because both guys deserve recognition. Oh, if Adams also delivers it’s gonna be neck by neck race between her and Diaz. And I still have a feeling Julia won’t go for a category fraud. It’s a leading role and she’s the name.
