Described as a thematic continuation of writer/director Abbas Kiarostami‘s 2010 Cannes Entry, Certified Copy, which won Juliette Binoche the Best Actress award at the fest two years ago, Like Someone In Love is set in Japan and tells the story of a young woman (Rin Takanashi) who finances her studies through prostitution and her relationship with a brilliant, elderly academic (Tadashi Okuno) who is also one of her clients.
There was a bootleg version of the trailer for this film that arrived online some time back, but today comes an official version without ugly watermarks and in much higher quality.
Back when Certified Copy screened it was actually my introduction to Kiarostami’s work and I quite enjoyed it (read my review here), though it definitely split the audience as it was met with equal part boos and cheers from the Cannes audience in attendance. Those that booed, I’m assuming, didn’t quite get it or even choose to look too deeply into the twisting narrative.
That said, I’m hoping Certified Copy will prove just as interesting and intriguing as the film that came before it.
I have included the trailer for Like Someone in Love directly below and you can check out my gallery of six total images from the film right here or click on any of the thumbnails just below the trailer.
