You’ve got to admit, the image of the bride walking in a sewer tunnel, carrying a chainsaw on her way to finding her new husband amidst a steady stream of “infected” humans is pretty cool as Filmax has decided to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a new trailer for the upcoming third film in the [REC] franchise, [REC]3 Genesis.
Now the one thing about this film I don’t get is how it fits in with the two previous films. This appears to be a one-off, but from what I understand it’s actually a prequel. Granted the [REC] tag will likely bring in fans of the first two films (or let’s be honest, the first film since the second one wasn’t very good), but it looks as if they could have just called it something else and started a whole new franchise, since [REC]4: Apocalypse is expected to arrive soon as well.
Either way, here’s the description that accompanied this new trailer:
Koldo and Clara are about to celebrate the most important day of their lives: their wedding.
The reception is being held at a beautiful old stately home in the middle of the countryside. Everything appears to be running smoothly and the bride and groom and their families are enjoying a wonderful day; that is until some of the guests start showing signs of a strange illness. Before they know what’s happening, the bride and groom find themselves in the middle of a hellish ordeal, as an uncontrollable torrent of violence is unleashed on the wedding.
Amidst the chaos, Koldo and Clara become separated and begin a desperate search for one another. What started off as an idyllic day quickly descends into a nightmare of the worst kind…
[REC]3 will hit theaters in Spain on March 30 and will probably find some kind of tiny release Stateside later this year before Sony Pictures Home Entertainment puts it out on DVD and Blu-ray.
have a look at the new trailer below and tell me you aren’t getting a little bit of a High Tension vibe. Also, if you haven’t done so yet, give the original [REC] a watch and see why they decided to remake it with Quarantine.
