’21 Jump Street’ Red Band Trailer

Colombia Pictures has debuted the red band trailer for 21 Jump Street, a feature film adaptation of the mid-’80s television series that jump-started Johnny Depp‘s career. The film features Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum in the lead roles with Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs helmers, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, directing.

I don’t know about you, but I haven’t seen a single episode of the television show so I have no idea if what to expect from the film, but based on the snippets I saw while snagging the above screenshot it looks like it’s supposed to be some sort of buddy-cop spoof as Jonah Hill and C-Tates play high school students looking for some sort of drugs. Did the original “21 Jump Street” have a lot of comedy in it?

Here’s the official synopsis from the studio:

In the action-comedy 21 Jump Street, Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) are more than ready to leave their adolescent problems behind. Joining the police force and the secret Jump Street unit, they use their youthful appearances to go undercover in a local high school. As they trade in their guns and badges for backpacks, Schmidt and Jenko risk their lives to investigate a violent and dangerous drug ring. But they find that high school is nothing like they left it just a few years earlier and neither expects that they will have to confront the terror and anxiety of being a teenager again and all the issues they thought they had left behind.

The film co-stars Ice Cube, Brie Larson, Rob Riggle, DeRay Davis, Jake Johnson, Johnny Simmons, Dakota Johnson, Ellie Kemper and is expected to feature a cameo appearance from Depp. Colombia is set to release the film in theaters on March 16, 2012.
