I don’t know about you, but seeing a movie not shot on IMAX film in an IMAX theater is pretty much worthless and don’t forget VERY expensive. ROS’s Box-Office Oracle, Laremy Legel, told me his wife, two kids and a senior recently went to see a matinee screening of How to Train Your Dragon in IMAX 3D in North Carolina and for four people, at a matinee, it cost them $67. $67! Oh, and it wasn’t even the “real” IMAX, it was that faux-IMAX crap they’re tossing into standard multiplexes. That’s insane!
Theaters are basically saying unless your family is loaded you better not even think about taking the little tykes to the theater.
So, when a new trailer for the upcoming Iron Man 2 is released boasting “The IMAX Experience” I can’t help but scoff. Why pay extra to see a film that simply won’t utilize the entire IMAX screen? I expect most people can see through this gimmick, but nonetheless, here’s the latest Iron Man 2 trailer telling you to “Experience it IMAX”. If you want to experience something in IMAX, try Hubble 3D.
