What happens in the Emilia Pérez trailer?
The Emilia Pérez trailer introduces us to Saldaña’s Rita, while the titular Emilia character is played by Karla Sofía Gascón. Along with showing off footage of the film’s elaborate musical numbers, the trailer also provides new looks at Gomez’s Jessi character.
“From renegade auteur Jacques Audiard comes Emilia Pérez, an audacious fever dream that defies genres and expectations,” the synopsis for the movie reads. “Through liberating song and dance and bold visuals, this odyssey follows the journey of four remarkable women in Mexico, each pursuing their own happiness. The fearsome cartel leader Emilia (Karla Sofía Gascón) enlists Rita (Zoe Saldaña), an unappreciated lawyer stuck in a dead-end job, to help fake her death so that Emilia can finally live authentically as her true self.”
The cast of the movie also includes Adriana Paz as Epifanía and Edgar Ramírez as Gustavo. Pascal Caucheteux, Audiard, Valérie Schermann, and Anthony Vaccarello produce the movie, while Pauline Lamy serves as executive producer. Clément Ducol and Camille provide original songs and the score for Emilia Pérez.
Audiard is known for making 1994’s See How They Fall, 199’s A Self-Made Hero, 2001’s Read My Lips, 2005’s The Beat That My Heart Skipped, 2009’s A Prophet, 2012’s Rust and Bone, 2015’s Dheepan, 2018’s The Sisters Brothers, and 2021’s Paris, 13th District.
Emilia Pérez premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival last May, where it won the Jury Prize and Best Actress awards.
The movie will be released in select theaters in the United States and Canada on November 1, 2024. It will then begin streaming on Netflix on November 13, 2024.
