Yellow Door Trailer: Netflix Documentary Highlights Bong Joon-ho’s College Film Club

Netflix has released the official Yellow Door: ’90s Lo-fi Film Club trailer for its newest documentary, centering around Oscar-winning director Bong Joon-ho’s titular college film club, where his passion for films grew and filmmaking journey started. The docufilm will be available for streaming on October 27.

The video teases Joon-ho’s college years at Yonsei University during the early 1990s, where he co-founded a film club consisting of fellow young cinephiles from other universities. The Parasite director along with his club members recall fond memories they had after bonding through their love for films. The trailer also gives fans a glimpse of the club’s home videos, revealing a young Joon-ho on the verge of directing his first short film.

What to expect in the Yellow Door documentary?

“The documentary film revisits the era of avid film lovers who became the first generation of Korean cinephiles by tracking the memories of Yellow Door Film Club members, who also recall their impressions of Director Bong Joon Ho’s first short film,” reads the synopsis. “In 1993, a young Bong Joon Ho was part of the Yellow Door Film Club” where cinephiles’ sole passion was cinema, and managed the video library of global masterpieces.”

The Yellow Door: ’90s Lo-fi Film Club is directed by Lee Hyuk-rae, who was also member of the titular club. The documentary features interviews from members of the Yellow Door Film Club as well as old home videos of their youth. It hails from Broccoli Pictures Co. Ltd.

Bong Joon-Ho gained international recognition for directing critically-acclaimed films such as:the crime drama Memories of Murder, the 2006 sci-fi horror film The Host, his first English-language film Snowpiercer, the 2017 Netflix film Okja, and the Oscar-winning black comedy thriller Parasite. His next project will be a sci-fi drama titled Mickey 17, starring Robert Pattinson. The film is slated to arrive in theaters on March 29, 2024.
