Sony Pictures has released a brand new featurette for their long-awaited horror-comedy sequel Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which is currently set to be released on November 11, 2021. The video features Jason and Ivan Reitman as they talked about the passing of the Proton Pack from one generation to the next. The father and son duo also reminisce about their time on the first two Ghostbusters films as well as what it’s like for Jason Reitman to direct Ghostbusters: Afterlife while his father was on the set.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife will focus on a new family with single mom Callie and her two kids, Trevor and Phoebe who move into a beaten-down farmhouse in Oklahoma only to discover that there’s something strange in the neighborhood. Unexplained quakes shake the town. There’s an old mine nearby that bears the name of Ivo Shandor, who built the Manhattan high-rise in the 1984 film that channeled the forces of evil. Paul Rudd costars as a local teacher who’s been documenting the unexplained phenomena, befriending Callie and her kids, and helping make the connection between the current weirdness and the events of three decades before.
The film stars Carrie Coon (The Leftovers), Mckenna Grace (Annabelle Comes Home), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things, IT), and Paul Rudd (Avengers: Endgame). It will also feature the return of original Ghostbusters stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts as they reprise their iconic roles as Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Winston Zeddemore, Dana Barrett, and Janine Melnitz.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife is directed by Jason Reitman (Juno, Young Adult, Tully), who is taking over from his father Ivan Reitman who helmed the first two films. It is written by Reitman and Gil Kenan (Monster House, Poltergeist), with Ivan Reitman set as a producer.
