‘Ocean’s Twelve’ Movie Review (2004)

Yes, they’re all back, and yes they need to raise a little dough because Terry Benedict is not exactly the kind of man you want on your bad side and the boys of Ocean’s Eleven have some work to do, but never fear there is always a trick or two up their sleeves.

The storyline for Ocean’s Twelve has been kept pretty much under wraps, and all we really know is that Mr. Benedict didn’t take too kindly to being relieved of $160 million even though his insurance completely covered the loss. As he sniffs out each and every one of the original eleven he offers them a total of two weeks to repay the debt, oh yeah, did I mention he tacked on interest?

So approximately $190 million in the hole the boys set out to decide just where this money is going to come from, and considering they are marked men in the States it is off to Amsterdam where more than just the fate of their futures lie before them.

Just by watching the trailer you know what you are in for, and much like the first film, which I absolutely loved by the way, this story has its twists and turns to keep the audience off track just as much as the bad guys. The only unfortunate part of Twelve is that the wit that was thrown into the first film just doesn’t meet the standards the original Ocean’s set.

While it isn’t exactly an easy task to match the quality of the first film this movie comes close and may have succeeded with an overall better film if it hadn’t been for a few pitfalls, which I will leave at that, just so I don’t ruin the film for you.

But this is not to say that I didn’t like the film, I just want to impress on you that if you loved the first one, as I did, don’t get your hopes up too high and allow yourself to enjoy the sequel. There are a ton of laughs and enough cameos to tire out your movie trivia mind.

With the anticipation this film has and the subtle hints at the end, it would be no surprise to me if we see an Ocean’s Thirteen in a few years.
