Mary J. Blige set to star in horror-thriller Body Cam
Singer and actress Mary J. Blige will follow up her award-winning role in Mudbound with the upcoming horror-thriller Body Cam over at Paramount Pictures, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Described as a blend of Get Out and End of Watch, Body Cam follows a group of LAPD officers who become haunted by a malevolent spirit tied to the murder of a black teenager at the hands of two white officers, which was caught on body camera footage but the evidence of which was destroyed in hopes of covering the incident up.
The film’s spec script was written by Richmond Riedel (Shooter) and rewritten by Nic McCarthy and John Ridley (12 Years a Slave). The film is set to be directed by Malik Vitthal, who helmed the 2014 Netflix drama Imperial Dreams starring John Boyega. Blige is set to play an officer who becomes haunted by visions and begins to investigate the cover-up.
Blige is currently coming off of acclaim for her role in the 2017 Netflix period drama Mudbound, which was nominated for four Oscars, two of which Blige herself was nominated for, including Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Song, which she lost to Allison Janney for I, Tonya and Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez for “Remember Me” from Coco. She also recently nabbed a role in the upcoming Netflix adaptation of the Dark Horse comic The Umbrella Academy, which is set to debut sometime later this year.
