Deadpool 2’s David Leitch confirmed to direct Fast & Furious spinoff
It was reported back in February that Deadpool 2 director David Leitch was in early talks to take the helm of the upcoming Fast & Furious spinoff, and now a Tweet from the official Fast & Furious Twitter account confirms he has signed on the dotted line. The Fast & Furious spinoff will follow Dwayne Johnson’s Diplomatic Security Service agent Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham’s assassin Deckard Shaw, and has a script from Chris Morgan, who has worked on the franchise since Tokyo Drift in 2006.
The Universal Pictures film has a release date of July 26, 2019. David Leitch started off as a stuntman, and transitioned into directing. He worked with Chad Stahelski on John Wick, which was their directorial debut. He also directed Atomic Blonde. He worked as a second unit director on films like Ninja Assassin, Hitman: Agent 47 and Captain America: Civil War. Deadpool 2 will hit theaters on May 18.
