Zazie Beetz Joins Natalie Portman in Pale Blue Dot

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2, Atlanta) is in talks to join Oscar winner Natalie Portman (Annihilation) in Pale Blue Dot alongside Jon Hamm (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt). The news comes right after the announcement that Beetz will be joining Kristen Stewart in the biopic Against All Enemies as well.

Pale Blue Dot centers on a married astronaut (Portman) who returns to Earth after a mission and begins an affair with a fellow astronaut (Hamm). She heads into a downward spiral as she loses her connection to her family — a condition that can afflict those who spend a long time in space — and when her lover beings another affair with an astronaut trainee, the bottom drops out.

If scheduling falls into place and a deal is made, Beetz will be the final piece of the love triangle as the astronaut trainee in the film. The movie is named for the famous photograph of Earth that was taken by Voyager 1 in 1990. Pale Blue Dot will be directed by Fargo and Legion creator Noah Hawley and is written by Brian C. Brown and Elliot DiGuiseppi. Reese Witherspoon was originally attached to star in the film but was replaced by Portman because of a schedule conflict with Big Little Lies Season 2.

Beetz recently wrapped a starring role in Steven Soderbergh’s High Flying Bird and is playing Domino in Deadpool 2. The actress can also be seen in the Golden Globe-winning FX series Atlanta, created by star Donald Glover.
