Dario Argento’s surrealist 1977 horror landmark Suspiria turns 40 this year and to celebrate TFW is bringing Argento himself over from Rome along with actresses Barbara Magnolfi and Stefania Casini to make this a Suspiria reunion like no other.
Suspiria saw Argento at his peak, sculpting a stylish supernatural free-fall into blood, murder and femininity that was propelled by the paralyzing music of the band Goblin. The visionary film was an international hit and kick started the wave of strong, ultra-violent Italian horror movies that favored style over narrative coherence that would bleed over well into the 1980s.Often imitated, there still is no other film experience quite like it…though the movie is controversially being remade as we speak.
Texas Frightmare Weekend is presented in association with Blumhouse.com. True to its motto, “The Southwest’s Premier Horror Convention”, their goal is to provide fans with an unrivaled experience by celebrating all aspects of genre films. Texas Frightmare Weekend hosts celebrity appearances, autograph signings, screenings, exclusive parties and horror memorabilia vendors from all over the country. The event is also extremely proud to have featured the rising talents of many Texas “Frightmakers” in screenings, panel discussions and Q & A’s.
In 2012 the event moved to the Hyatt Regency inside the DFW to make room for its growing fan base. The new venue provides 93,000 square feet of event space (compared to the Grapevine Convention Center at 23,500 square feet) and 800 rooms.
