Coming as no surprise to fans of the actor, Bruce Campbell has nevertheless confirmed that he’ll be playing a “pivotal” role in Sam Raimi’s currently-in-production Oz The Great and Powerful.
“I. Am. In. Oz.” the actor tweeted today, attaching the below photograph of he and Raimi on the set of The Evil Dead, “Sam Raimi refuses to tell me what character I will portray. Just know that the role is PIVOTAL.”
The Disney release, a prequel to the original L. Frank Baum book, will star James Franco as a younger version of the Wizard from the original tale, who winds up in Oz following a balloon accident. The cast is also set to include Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams, Zach Braff and Joey King.
Campbell and Raimi, childhood friends, launched their careers together with Evil Dead in 1981, re-teaming for two sequels and many other projects together. Though he didn’t appear in Raimi’s most recent film, Drag Me to Hell, Campbell offered three separate cameos in each of Raimi’s Spider-Man films.
Oz The Great and Powerful is planned for release on March 8, 2013.
