More Evil Dead Movies on the Way According to Bruce Campbell

The gap between Evil Dead movies will get a lot smaller as Bruce Campbell, original star and now series producer, confirms there will be more Evil Dead movies, and more regularly than before.

Evil Dead Sequels Sooner

After a lengthy hiatus of over 20 years between Army of Darkness and Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead, there was a ten-year gap until Evil Dead Rise came out earlier this year. In that time, we did get the marvelous Ash vs. Evil Dead series at least, but that was criminally underseen.

There will be no decade long wait for the next Evil Dead movie though, and in fact, we might even fit two or more in a decade instead.

We’re going to do them probably more like every two to three years now, rather than every 10 years,” Campbell told Collider, ”But, hey, we’ve seen with Star Wars — you don’t want to wear people out. Keep them guessing! We never wore out our welcome with Evil Dead because we never choked them.”

Campbell also goes on to praise Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin (who directed the intriguing folklore horror The Hole in the Ground) after his movie became the most successful entry at the box office with $140 million, which is a big reason we’re getting more sooner than usual.

”We were very happy with what Lee Cronin did. He did a great job, to the point where he’s going to be hard to employ again because everybody wants to use him now. So we’ll see if we get him back or not! It’s made the most money of any Evil Dead movie so far at $140 million. So, yeah, you bet your bottom dollar we’re going to do a few more.”

The last two movies have taken to telling largely unconnected stories from Sam Raimi’s original trilogy, with a more visceral, wince-inducing level of gory horror (you won’t look at a cheese grater the same way again after Evil Dead Rise). Hopefully, that’s how the series continues, keeping things familiar but fresh with another location switch-up.
