Bret McKenzie Joins The Hobbit

“Flight of the Conchords” star Bret McKenzie has joined the cast of The Hobbit, which is now filming in New Zealand.

Variety says that McKenzie will play Lindir, an Elf of Rivendell. He previously made brief appearances in the first and third films in Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. His father, Peter McKenzie, played the role of Elendil in “Lord of the Rings.”

The two “Hobbit” films, both shot in 3D, will hit theaters in December of 2012 and December of 2013. Shooting is taking place over the next 14 months.
