Contagion Filming in Full Swing in Glengoe

The filming for Steven Soderbergh’s thriller Contagion is in full swing in Glencoe, Illinois, where the production has taken over a house for the week to shoot on location with Matt Damon. TribLocal has posted photos (View Here) and a rundown of what has been happening and where else the filming has taken place. Here are highlights from the article:

The star, in town to shoot the upcoming action-thriller “Contagion,” arrived on the 500 block of Woodlawn Avenue at about 11:25 a.m.

Set in Edina, Minn., “Contagion” required a snowy residential neighborhood for its setting. Crews began at 7 a.m. Monday spraying lawns and bushes with ice-shavings from a snow truck. Other lawns on the block were covered in a white tarp.

Neighbors said the main house, at 525 Woodlawn, saw its interior completely changed for the film – from furniture to wall paint. Its owners were put up in a downtown Chicago hotel for three weeks while crews readied it for filming, neighbors said.

Shooting in and around the Glencoe home was expected to last through Thursday, according to a permit application filed at Village Hall.

Camille Iemmolo Wyville, who lives across the street from the main filming location, was preparing her house for use in the movie, as well. “Matt Damon is going to break into my garage,” she said.

The movie had just wrapped several days of filming in Wilmette, including a large evacuation scene at Central School, 910 Central Ave., involving more than 200 local elementary students on Nov. 23.

“They were sad they didn’t get to meet Matt Damon,” said Wilmette resident Colette Donnelly, who was leaving the school with her three children – Celeste, 12; Daphne, 10; and Eamon, 8. All three were extras, which included a scene where they were hustled from the school into awaiting buses to avoid the fictional disease outbreak.

Contagion, also starring Marion Cotillard, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Winslet, is scheduled to hit theaters on October 21, 2011. The Warner Bros. release follows the rapid progress of a lethal airborne virus that kills within days. As the fast-moving epidemic grows, the worldwide medical community races to find a cure and control the panic that spreads faster than the virus itself. At the same time, ordinary people struggle to survive in a society coming apart.
