The Hobbit Eyeing January Start?

Although official word on a resolution to The Hobbit‘s troubled production has not been yet been announced, Ian McKellen has just told The Bolton News that he will be returning as Gandalf and that, “the aim is to start filming in January.”

Two “Hobbit” films (which will be shot back to back) are still officially without a director, but it is has been heavily suggested that writer/producer Peter Jackson will helm (as he did with all three “Lord of the Rings” films). Regardless, if the financial issues surrounding MGM and their share of the rights have been resolved, expect an studio announcement very soon.
