The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Sets New Midnight Record

Summit Entertainment’s The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has already set two records – widest release ever and biggest midnight opening.

The third film in the franchise earned more than $30 million from about 4,000 theaters at midnight, a figure that will be added to the Wednesday grosses. The previous midnight record was held by The Twilight Saga: New Moon, which opened to $26.3 million. “Eclipse” earned about $1 million from 192 IMAX theaters at midnight, a new record for the company.

The David Slade-directed film expands today into a record 4,416 North American theaters which is the widest release ever, surpassing Iron Man 2‘s 4,380 theaters in May.
