Writers Already Penning Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules

ComingSoon.net talked exclusively to Diary of a Wimpy Kid producer Brad Simpson, who told us that they are ready to get started on a sequel if the first film is a success. The March 19 release is based on the first out of four books. A fifth book is coming to stores this year.

“Our screenwriters are writing a sequel right now, “Rodrick Rules,” which would be based on the second book,” Simpson told us. “And, you know, we hope that the people want to see a second movie, that we are in position of going again right away and making another film. I certainly know that the fans would like to see all the books made into movies.”

He added that “The movie stands alone, but hopefully we’ve created a world that people will want to go back to again and again and if people love this movie the way that we all do then hopefully we’ll be coming out with ‘Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules.'”

Based on the best-selling illustrated novel by Jeff Kinney, Diary of a Wimpy Kid chronicles the adventures of wise-cracking middle school student Greg Heffley, who must somehow survive the scariest time of anyone’s life: middle school. Jeff Filgo, Jackie Filgo, Jeff Judah and Gabe Sachs wrote the script.

“Rodrick Rules” is about Greg, his older brother Rodrick, and the school talent show.
