Ben Affleck’s ‘Live by Night’ Delayed, ‘Accountant’ Shifts to More Promising Date

Ben Affleck‘s 2016 will most likely be dominated by talk of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as he’s not only starring as the Dark Knight in that feature, but he’s also co-writing the next solo Batman feature and perhaps directing it as well. However, before Bats v Supes hits theaters on March 25, we were going to see Affleck as an accountant that moonlights as an assassin in Gavin O’Connor‘s The Accountant, which was originally slated for a not-so-promising January release date. No more, the movie has now shifted to October 7, 2016, only five days earlier than the Best Picture-winning Argo, though this premise doesn’t exactly sound like that of an oscar player, though a cast that includes Oscar nominee Anna Kendrick and Oscar winner J.K. Simmons should definitely pique your interest.

Pesonally, the one Affleck film I’m most looking forward to, though, is his adaptation of Live By Night, based on the kick ass book by Dennis Lehane. This will be Affleck’s second adaptation of a Lehane novel after Gone Baby Gone and having read the book I really can’t wait to see it play out on screen… but I’m going to have to.

Thanks to Affleck’s scripting duties on the Batman project, Live by Night has been moved from its October 2016 release date to an undetermined 2017 date, which most likely means we’ll be waiting at least another year for the pic.

[amz asin=”0062197754″ size=”small”]Lehane’s Prohibition Era novel is set in Boston and centers on Joe Coughlin (Affleck), who rebels against his cop father and becomes a career criminal, eventually joining a mobster. He rises up the ranks as the action moves to Tampa, Fla., then Cuba and features rumrunners, femme fatales, betrayals and good men committing plenty of sin. Elle Fanning, Sienna Miller and Zoe Saldana are set to co-star… if they stick around after the delay.

If you haven’t read “Live by Night” I strongly urge you to do so, though you may want to read “The Given Day” first as it’s the first book (and a good one as well) in the series along with the recently released third, “World Gone By“, which I haven’t had the pleasure of reading just yet.
