Del Toro Uncertain About The Collector Appearing in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’

In a cast that features Vin Diesel as a talking tree, Bradley Cooper as a talking raccoon, and Glenn Close as the leader of the space police, it’s easy to see how Benicio Del Toro‘s Collector gets lost in the shuffle in Guardians of the Galaxy. When Del Toro signed on for the role, it was assumed the Collector would pop up in a number of Marvel movies. However, it seems like we still don’t know when he’ll show up next in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to an interview he did with IGN, Del Toro is unsure if the Collector will even appear in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

“I would like to keep working on that character, though. It was kind of like a cameo. I would like to keep developing the character based on what’s written in the comic books. I’d like to see some different sides. I had a blast working with James Gunn and the cast – but it’s not up to me,” says Del Toro.

The flamboyant character first appeared in the end credits scene after Thor: The Dark World, but had an expanded role in Guardians as the one most knowledgeable about the Infinity Stones. There’s still a chance Del Toro just hasn’t been informed of his involvement. With the first draft of the script just completed, and filming not scheduled until early 2016, the Collector (and his fancy clothes) still could show up in the sequel.

As fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe know, the Infinity Stones have been talked about quite a bit in previous films, and are expected to be featured heavily in Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 and 2. So, even if Del Toro is out of Guardians 2, we should expect to see him pop up over the next few years as Thanos starts to collect the stones.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is scheduled to release May 5, 2017.
