Jason Statham Confirms He’ll Return for ‘Fast and Furious 8’

It’s no secret Furious 7 has made a boatload of cash over the course of its theatrical run. Similarly, it is no surprise Furious 8 has already been announced, with Universal claiming a favorable April 14, 2017 release date. What we don’t yet know is the story it will tell (though I guess it’s supposed to be taking place in New York) and the characters that will return to tell it, but one piece of that puzzle has fallen into place as Jason Statham told Access Hollywood he will indeed be back for the franchise’s eighth installment.

[amz asin=”B00HLTD92E” size=”small”]”We’re already talking about doing another one, part eight,” Statham states in the video below. “And I’m a newcomer, you know, I just got invited to the party in this last one, so it’s nice to know I’m gonna be doing another.” He goes on to say the filmmakers have some great ideas up their sleeves for the next installment, and he seems eager to get back in the driver’s seat and go full speed ahead on what is sure to be another big box office run.

As for his thoughts on just how well the film has done, with domestic and worldwide box office tallies sitting at $351 million and $1.52 billion, respectively, “I mean it just shows that, you know, the fan base is just, it’s very unique… they really do relate to the characters, they love these characters.”

That $1.52 billion worldwide figure puts Furious 7 ahead of the $1.519 billion The Avengers made in 2012, making it the third highest grossing film of all-time. Until, you know, Jurassic World devours it in a couple weeks.
