Michael Myers is Coming Back in ‘Halloween Returns’, Director Announced

Talk of another Halloween movie has existed since Rob Zombie‘s Halloween II failed to energize the box office. At one point it was a 3-D film and the last time I reported on it was just over a year ago. Now, however, there seems to be more movement than we’ve seen in a long time as a synopsis for Halloween Returns has arrived (via Moviehole) and a director has been hired (via Variety).

Word is Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton are collaborating to bring Michael Myers back to life. The duo worked together writing films such as The Collector and Saw 3D: The Final Chapter with Dunstan making his directorial debut on The Collector. Here’s the rumored plot:

The now 18-year-old child of one of Myers’ victims plays a central role along with the child of a cop whose long been obsessed with Myers’ case, even putting it before his own daughter. Myers is now on death row and the two kids with their own personal vendettas against the killer sneak in to watch his execution. But when things go awry and Myers escapes, the pair, along with their friends, find themselves in the firing line.

I posed the question The Lords of Salem.

The pic is still set up at Dimension Films with Trancas International Films pitching in as production is expected to begin in July on what would effectively be the 11th film in the Halloween franchise. Will be interesting to see if this is just produced as a standard horror feature or if Dunstan and Melton have something interesting up their sleeves.
