Colin Trevorrow Not Returning for ‘Jurassic Park 5’, Plus 3 New ‘Jurassic World’ Clips

Jurassic World had its premiere in Paris over the weekend and so far we know Josh Gad loved the movie (as does star Chris Pratt according to this Facebook post), but the critical verdict will be arriving next week. I know I’m seeing it next Tuesday on a legit IMAX screen here in Seattle and I’m hoping it’s better than I expect it to be… because my expectations are quite low.

Regardless of my expectations, the film is reportedly tracking for a $110 million opening, which I guess makes sense considering the immense interest in the 2013 3-D re-release of the original Jurassic Park, which brought in $65 million.

Successful or not, however, it appears director Colin Trevorrow will not be returning for a second go ’round as he tells the website BadTaste.it (via ComingSoon) he won’t be directing Jurassic Park 5. “Jurassic Park is like Star Wars,” Trevorrow said. “Different directors can give a different taste to each movie. I would be involved in some way, but not as director.”

It’s somewhat amazing it took the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for studios to realize the continuation of these franchises beyond mere trilogies means big bucks, but it appears everyone has finally caught on and it would be great if the Jurassic Park franchise could evolve into something more than just “Big monster go RAWR!” Perhaps Jurassic World has that… we’ll know come June 12.

Now, if you want more, below are three new clips, a new featurette and a new TV spot.
