
As Edgar Wright puts his latest project, Baby Driver, into high gear, he ropes in another up-and-coming young performer to come along for the ride. Cinderella star Lily James joins Ansel Elgort (The Fault in Our Stars) for the former Ant-Man director’s new rock ‘n’ roll car chase action comedy.
James will play a diner waitress and Elgort’s titular character’s love interest. Baby Driver follows a mute driver (Elgort) with an ear condition which forces him to listen to music constantly to drown out the continuous ringing inside his ears. He serves as the driver for a group of bank robbers on the run when a heist turns sour. Production is scheduled to start this fall in New Orleans, from a screenplay also written by Wright. Elgort joined the film back in January.
Rumors stated Emma Stone as the top choice for the part earlier this year, but it looks as though James won out. Also at this time came reports of Michael Douglas, once set to be under Wright’s direction on Ant-Man before he left the project, being involved with this new movie as a mentor figure for Elgort’s character. Although, little word has come of late as to whether or not he’s involved with the project.
