Yeaaaaah…. riiiiight…. Sure Hugh Jackman, we believe you when you say the as yet Untitled Wolverine Sequel will be your last time to play the character. It’s like they always say, “ninth time’s a charm.” That’s right, to this point Jackman has played the X-Men character Wolverine seven times with his upcoming appearance in X-Men: Apocalypse being the eighth and his turn in what is effectively Wolverine 3 (or Wolverine 2 if you’re not counting X-Men Origins: Wolverine) being his ninth and now he suggests on his Instagram page he’s donning the claws “one last time”. Do you believe him?
Jackman has said something similar before and I personally believe he’s destined to play the character as long as he remains in good enough shape to show up, even if it’s just a cameo as was his fifth appearance in an uncredited role in X-Men: First Class. Of course, at the age of 46, and considering how seriously he takes his training for the role that just might be the issue. Either way, as much as I sometimes feel as if “enough is enough” when it comes to Jackman’s work in these X-Men movies, he’s become a staple and it will be a little interesting come a time where he doesn’t show up at all.
As of now, X-Men: Apocalypse is set for a May 27, 2016 release with Wolverine 3 coming March 3, 2017.
