Jamie Foxx Talks Playing Mike Tyson with Martin Scorsese Directing

I forgot Jamie Foxx has been talking about playing Mike Tyson in a biopic on the fighter’s life since IGN once again that Foxx would star and it looked like Martin Scorsese would be involved in some capacity. Today the story gets even bigger.

In an interview with Power 105’s “The Breakfast Club” (included just below), Foxx said, “I just went in with Paramount with Mike Tyson. So I’m going to do the Mike Tyson story. Listen, to be in the same room pitching Mike Tyson to Paramount, Mike Tyson is on one side, I’m on the other side doing Mike Tyson at the same time. And Martin Scorsese at the helm. This will be the first boxing movie that Martin Scorsese has done since Raging Bull.”

To my knowledge this is the first time it has ever been said Scorsese would direct, but wow would that bring people out to the cinema. If there is much weight to this report I expect the trades will pick up on it soon enough.

Meanwhile, if you have a Starz subscription, check out “Champs” a new boxing documentary featuring Tyson as well as Evander Holyfield and Bernard Hopkins. Great and moving stuff.

At the moment Scorsese is shooting Silence for Paramount with many hoping it will hit theaters late this year. As for Foxx, well he’s played a boxer before… remember Carl “The Tooth” Williams on “In Living Color”? See below. [The Smoking Section via The Playlist]
