Don’t Expect Joss Whedon to Direct ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

Joss Whedon took fan excitement from the likes of Iron Man, Thor and Captain America and turned it into something huge with The Avengers and I’m sure Avengers: Age of Ultron will be just another step in the right financial direction for the Marvel franchise of superhero films. But it seems two movies have taken a lot out of Joss as he tells Empire magazine in their latest cover story…

I couldn’t imagine doing this again. It’s enormously hard, and it [will] be, by [the time I would make Avengers 3 and 4], a good five years since I created anything that was completely my own. So it’s very doubtful that I would take on the two-part Infinity War movie that would eat up the next four years of my life. I obviously still want to be a part of the Marvel Universe – I love these guys – but it ain’t easy. This year has been more like running three shows than any year of my life. It is bonkers.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War sibling helmers, Joe and Anthony Russo, have been rumored to take over for Whedon, but who’s to say they too won’t be Marveled out once Captain America 3 arrives in May 2016? After all, Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 is already slated for May 4, 2018, would the Russos want to live in Marvel land for the better part of six to seven years?

Meanwhile, Empire has revealed the following covers for the upcoming mag, which will feature some new stills from the film, which have already been scanned and uploaded online. Here are those covers.
