Serving as one more bit of evidence proclaiming The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies the last film in the franchise, the end credits song as sung by Billy Boyd is titled “The Last Goodbye” and now Watertower Music has released the song in full for your listening approval or otherwise.
In terms of the Oscar race in the Best Original Song category, I’m not sure I would expect much from this one as neither Neil Finn‘s “Song of the Lonely Mountain” or Ed Sheeran‘s “I See Fire” were able to earn an Oscar nomination from the two previously released Hobbit films.
Then again, as we all remember back to when The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King won 11 Oscars, we can also recall how the first two Hobbit films have amassed a grand total of six nominations and zero wins. You can probably chalk up a visual effects nomination for Five Armies and then a couple more noms for probably sound, or maybe costumes and/or production design, but I wouldn’t go expecting much else.
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies hits theaters December 17, listen to “The Last Goodbye” directly below.
