The Accountant sounds like an extremely stupid movie to me. Ben Affleck will play a man who is an accountant by day and an assassin by night. I hope the film has a sense of humor about itself, but director Gavin O’Connor‘s track record (Warrior, Pride & Glory) does not suggest it will. However, this piece of casting news gives me more hope on what the film will be.
Anna Kendrick and J.K. Simmons are doing some extremely fine work as of late. Simmons is looking at an Oscar nomination for Whiplash, which he very much deserves for that performance. Kendrick just gave what I think is the best performance of her career thus far in The Last 5 Years (read my review here) and will next be seen in another musical adaptation this Christmas with Into the Woods. The two are operating at high levels and are some of my favorite people to watch on screen.
Both actors are in talks to join The Accountant to play alongside Affleck. This certainly has me much more interested in what this film is if it can attract these kinds of people. Affleck I can take or leave, but Kendrick and Simmons? That is some top quality talent right there. I will keep my eye on this one.
