Casting surrounding David Ayer‘s Suicide Squad, the first officially scheduled DC Comics feature set to follow 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, has been a source for quite a it of news as of late. Just yesterday it was reported Jared Leto is being sought to play The Joker after Ryan Gosling turned the role down, now Collider reports Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) has been cast to play Harley Quinn, a character frequently portrayed as the accomplice and girlfriend of the Joker, and therefore no friend of Batman.
Of course, this isn’t a confirmation, but it seems highly likely to be a common belief the Robbie, along with Will Smith and Tom Hardy, both for unspecified roles, are close to signing on to the film. The Leto news is just rumor at this point, while at the end of October, there was talk of having Jesse Eisenberg reprise his Batman v Superman role as Lex Luthor for the film.
As for the plot of the film, nothing specific just yet, but the comics from which it’s based follows a group of incarcerated supervillains who perform special ops missions for the government in exchange for favorable prison terms.
David Ayer (Fury) will direct with the film set for an August 5, 2016 release.
