Gone Girl fever is taking over the movie blogosphere as we’re all clamoring for another movie to get firmly behind and love and with early reviews somewhat mixed, yet largely positive, it’s not easy to tell if David Fincher‘s adaptation of Gillian Flynn‘s best-selling novel will be the film we’re looking for, but that doesn’t quell my anticipation and I assume if you’re reading this post you’re equally excited.
Today the full track listing for the film’s score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross has been revealed (via NINwiki). The duo provided the score for Fincher’s The Social Network and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and now they’re back with a score Reznor recently described to The Wall Street Journal saying, “[David Fincher] said, ‘Think about the really terrible music you hear in massage parlors’… The way it artificially tries to make you feel like everything’s OK. And then imagine that sound starting to curdle and unravel.”
Fincher corrects Reznor in the same piece saying, “I said a spa, not a massage parlor!” while adding, “I was listening to that calming, placating music and thought, we need to tap into this. The movie is about the facade of the good neighbor, the good Christian, the good wife. So the notion was to start with music that’s attempting to give you a hug.”
The film will open the New York Film Festival on September 26 before hitting theaters on October 3 while the score will be available beginning September 30 with a vinyl edition arriving later this year.
