It’s hard to muster any enthusiasm for this weekend’s box office, though I guess it will make for easy headlines on Sunday if this ends up being the worst box office weekend of the year, which is a very strong possibility.
Looking over the reader prediction averages it’s even more disappointing as the only new wide release this weekend is The Identical of which the readers predict will only top out at $3.79 million. Okay, I guess if there’s one other thing that will be interesting about this weekend it will be whether or not the readers’ meager prediction or what now looks like a bullish prediction from Laremy comes true. More than $2 million separate the two numbers, which is a large disparity considering how little the film is going to make in the first place.
Speaking of first place, it will be Guardians of the Galaxy back at #1 for a third weekend in a row and fourth weekend altogether and predictions from Laremy and the readers are pretty much the same with $11.65 million being the middle ground compromise.
When it comes to the holdovers not much is expected from The November Man while If I Stay is having a modicum of success given its $11 million budget.
