Clint Eastwood’s ‘American Sniper’ Getting Christmas 2014 Release

Warner Bros. is throwing another film into the Oscar ring announcing a limited Christmas Day release of Clint Eastwood‘s American Sniper starring Bradley Cooper. The film will then expand wider on January 16, 2015.

American Sniper is based on the autobiography of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, telling the story of how the Texas native came to record the highest number of sniper kills for an American. Sienna Miller, Max Charles, Luke Grimes and Kyle Gallner co-star.

The move also forces WB to shift Guy Ritchie‘s The Man From U.N.C.L.E., which was previously set for a January 16 release, to much later in the year, now occupying an August 14 date. Additionally they’ve moved the Point Break remake from August 7, 2015 to July 31.

The addition of American Sniper into the Oscar race makes things very interesting as we can definitely now add Bradley Cooper into the Best Actor charts after he dropped out when Paramount shifted Cameron Crowe‘s untitled new film to 2015 and while Eastwood may not have hit a home run with Jersey Boys, perhaps we have something bigger here. I personally just hope Eastwood and cinematographer Tom Stern let a little color into this film… enough with the muted look.
