WB Discusses ‘Batman v Superman’ Release Date, Zack Snyder Defends Aquaman

Warner Bros. finally pulled the trigger this week and moved Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice away from Captain America 3. The two big budget superhero films were both set for a May 6, 2016 release, but now Bats v Supes has moved to March 25, 2016 and WB president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman has now discussed the move with Entertainment Weekly:

“The reality now is there really isn’t a bad week to open a movie. If you look at the summer box office this year, you can see that there were so many movies, one after the other. You can start with ‘Spider-Man,’ two weeks later ‘Godzilla,’ and then ‘Maleficent,’ and then ‘Edge of Tomorrow,’ and then ‘Jump Street’ and ‘Transformers.’ And the one thing they all had in common, not one of them did over $250 million. We’ll be the first one up [in 2016], which is very important, and we’ll have six weeks before ‘Captain America’ comes in.”

Meanwhile, Batman v Superman is currently shooting in Detroit and rumors are flying all around along with set pictures and video, but more interesting than that is that while a couple of radio hosts on Detroit’s 97.1 The Ticket were disparaging Aquaman on the radio, a caller phoned into the show claiming to be director Zack Snyder. Aquaman has yet to be confirmed for the film, but it’s highly believed actor Jason Momoa will be playing the superhero if only in a small role and despite that.

Since appearing on air, Slashfilm has confirmed it was indeed Snyder on the line and gives us this transcript:

You guys were disparaging, a little bit, Aquaman…I don’t want to give anything away about the movie or anything like that but Aquaman has some cool abilities. People are like, “Oh what? Does he talk to animals? Cause that seems like what he does. Or fish?” The cool thing with Aquaman is he’s Triton so you have to realize that could cut the flesh of Superman if they came in contact. That’s a thing that’s in the canon. He’s super strong cause of course he can exist at these super deep depths so when he comes up here he’s crazy strong. Anyway, not to say he’s in my movie or anything like that but he has the potential to be bad ass, that’s all I’m saying.

So, uh… there?

Finally, and heading back to Fellman, the studio recently Justice League, considering Snyder is shooting it back-to-back after Dawn of Justice? Apparently the studio will be announcing some of the titles this month and as for whether or not it will be Justice League in that same year, he says, “While it hasn’t been officially announced, I think it’s a pretty good bet.”
