Guardians of the Galaxy writer/director James Gunn has been hesitant to admit outright that he’ll be directing Guardians of the Galaxy 2. He told Adam Carolla, “I’m actually in a somewhat weird position because if the movie does well, then I’m gonna make the sequel. And if it does okay then, well, I’ve already been offered other movies but I can only do those other movies if I don’t do the sequel, so it’s a weird situation.”
Well, I think it’s safe to say the film will do pretty well considering the large swath of positive reviews (save for The Wrap you can probably expect Gunn to be back.
“Of course they would want to make a sequel as long as [Guardians of the Galaxy] does well and people are excited about it, they’ll wanna do a sequel. So, it’s going to happen,” she said. “James will be directing Guardians 2, so he would also be writing Guardians 2.”
Gunn is currently under contract for one more film with Marvel and while it will most likely be Guardians of the Galaxy 2, he also told Screenrant he’s interested in directing a movie about another Marvel super group, the Thunderbolts. So who knows how big all of this will get.
