Matt Damon recently opened up about filming The Odyssey. Speaking with PEOPLE, he admitted the production was extremely demanding. The actor said making the film tested everyone involved. Damon said, “This movie was by far the hardest movie to the most challenging movie I’ve ever been a part.” He also explained the demanding conditions during production. “More like an expedition than a movie.”
He said the cast and crew were constantly battling the elements. “We were out in the weather, whether we were cold, uncomfortable, getting rained on.” However, everything changed after one special family moment.
Damon, who shares four kids with his wife, Luciana, revealed one of his daughters watched the film. After it ended, she turned toward him and gave him some sweet praise. “She saw The Odyssey, and at the end of it, she actually turned to me, and she said, ‘Dad, I’m proud of you.'”
The actor admitted she had “never said anything like that” before. They usually joke around with each other. That emotional reaction meant everything to him. “She’s never said anything like that because we joke around a lot, and so at that point, I was like, ‘I’m good.'” He added, “It was all worth it.”
Damon stars as Odysseus in Christopher Nolan’s latest epic. The film adapts Homer’s famous ancient Greek poem for the big screen. It is also one of this year’s most anticipated releases. The Odyssey is set for a worldwide release on July 17 and the excitement around the film continues to build ahead of its theatrical debut.
