Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘Inherent Vice’ Premiering at New York Film Festival

The Fall film festival circuit is becoming all out warfare and I have to say, in recent years the New York Film Festival has been becoming such a major player it’s almost as if Toronto got too big for its britches. Telluride is getting several “secret” screenings, Venice gets a couple as does Toronto as well as a few second runs, but New York has already landed two major premieres this year and they haven’t even announced their line-up yet.

The first was the announcement David Fincher‘s Gone Girl would serve as the fest’s opening night film on September 26 and now Variety reports Paul Thomas Anderson‘s Inherent Vice will premiere on October 4, ahead of its December 12 release through Warner Bros.

Now, the NYFF has yet to confirm the announcement, but the date Variety has announced, while saying it will be the film’s world premiere, means it is unlikely to screen elsewhere beforehand.

In recent years films such as The Social Network, Life of Pi, Captain Phillips and Her premiered in New York.
