Guillermo del Toro Pretty Much Squashes Your ‘Hellboy 3’ Hopes

Guillermo del Toro took part in a Reddit AMA yesterday in large part to promote his new television series “The Strain“, premiering this Sunday night at 10PM on FX. However, questions about his film projects were bound to be a major topic and one such film is Hellboy 3, a film Ron Perlman recently said he’s fighting for every day… Well, sorry Ron, but you can probably give up that fight.

When the topic came up del Toro said:

“Well, you know, we don’t have [Hellboy 3] on the horizon, but the idea for it was to have Hellboy finally come to terms with the fact that his destiny, his inevitable destiny, is to become the beast of the Apocalypse, and having him and Liz face the sort of, that part of his nature, and he has to do it, in order to be able to ironically vanquish the foe that he has to face in the 3rd film. He has to become the best of the Apocalypse to be able to defend humanity, but at the same time he becomes a much darker being. It’s a very interesting ending to the series, but I don’t think it will happen.

Sorry Hellboy fans, but hey at least you have Crimson Peak, Pacific Rim 2 and another, smaller film from del Toro to look forward to over the next three years.
