‘True Blood’ Season 7 Premiere is Just about as Disappointing as It Gets

True Blood” has been going further and further downhill for some time now and I tuned in to last night’s season seven premiere more out of habit than anything else, that and the fact this will be the series’ final season so why not see it through to the end? Right? Well, I didn’t exactly get much for my investment.

Here’s a little recap of what happened last night…

Some bad (Hep V) vampires are running around killing/kidnapping people (not new). Sookie (Anna Paquin) remains incredibly selfish (not new). Sookie gets naked at the drop of a hat (not new). Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) declares he’s going to rape Violet (Karolina Wydra) only to have it not be rape because she apparently wants him to want to rape her (ummm, okay). Tara (Rutina Wesley) dies (or does she? Honestly, I hope she’s dead, her character was ruined alongside Jason’s a long time ago). Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten), another character ruined once she and Eric (Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd) were first separated, is now playing vampire roulette in Morocco (oh, exciting). And Bill (Stephen Moyer) and Andy (Chris Bauer) are searching for kidnapped humans (not new). Oh, and Adina Porter‘s character is perhaps one of the most annoying characters to ever land a recurring role on a television show.

And then there was this preview for the upcoming season.

What the hell was that? What is in that preview that gives me any reason to not just wait until the series finale to catch up on what’s happened and avoid listening to whatever dumb series of speeches Sookie wants to make about love. Hell, Deborah Ann Woll‘s speech that leads off that video is about as tired and cliche as it gets when it comes to a vampire story. The whole “feeding on the innocent” angle is what you open the first episode of a series with, not what you use to convince us to keep watching.

You also notice the one thing missing from that preview? Eric. Clearly, they aren’t going to have Pam searching for Eric only to have her come up empty-handed. Eric will be found, he will return, he will team with Sookie, Bill and all the other ingrates and the day will be saved. Alcide (Joe Manganiello) will probably die, Hoyt (Jim Parrack) will probably return for Jessica and Sookie and Bill will probably end up together as Eric reigns as king with Pam at his side. I could be wrong, but I really couldn’t be bothered to care.
