True Blood Star Joe Manganiello Unhappy About Show’s Ending

Alcide Herveaux actor Joe Manganiello gets candid about what he felt when True Blood concluded in 2014, stating that he still has an “unfinished business in the werewolf department.”

In an interview with Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM show, Manganiello revealed that his character — who first appeared on the third season of the HBO series — was not initially planned to be featured all the way through the final season. However, the werewolf character turned out to be a fan-favorite.

“I thought there was so much left on the table for me… the thing about it was they never planned for me to be on the show past one season. I was signed up as a guest star my first season, and when my character really broke and people really loved the character, they were kind of unprepared for that to happen,” Manganiello told EW.

Joe Manganiello is not happy about his character’s fate

The character went on to appear in the show for five years, which fans have — of course — grown to love. The character then met its ultimate demise in Season 7’s third episode, where he was shot by a group of vigilantes.

“I wound up on the show for five years in total, but my character had to get out of the way so that Sookie could wind up settling the A and B plots with Bill and Eric… the only way to get me out of the way was, spoiler alert: you know, to shoot me in the face. I really felt like there was a lot that was left unexplored,” said the actor.

He added, “I’m always on the lookout for a good werewolf script for me because… I feel like there’s a lot in me that was unfinished. I have unfinished business in the werewolf department.”

What is True Blood about?

True Blood, based on Charlaine Harris’ novel series The Southern Vampire Mysteries, took place two years after a synthetic blood product called “Tru Blood” awakened vampires, which allowed them to coexist with humans.

The series starred Anna Paquin as Sookie Stackhouse, Stephen Moyer as Bill Compton, Alexander Skarsgård as Eric Northman, Rutina Wesley as Tara Thornton, Ryan Kwanten as Jason Stackhouse, Carrie Preston as Arlene Fowler Bellefleur, Kristin Bauer van Straten as Pam Swynford de Beaufort, Nelsan Ellis as Lafayette Reynolds, and Kevin Alejandro as Jesús Velasquez, among others.
