I’m sorry to say, but if your predictions for Edge of Tomorrow were anywhere over, say $28 million at the absolute high end, you’re not likely going to be getting many points on that title this weekend. While it may be able to eek above the $23.9 million million tracking, a mid-$20 million weekend is likely after the film took in a meager $1.8 million at the box office on Thursday night.
Almost assuredly the good reviews led to the reader going with an average prediction of $34.7 million, while I know Laremy used the Oblivion comparison as well as his own enjoyment of the movie for his $34.5 million prediction. Too bad, it’s a really fun movie and more people are going to have to just deal with seeing it at home, where it won’t be nearly as enjoyable.
The other big new release this weekend is The Fault in Our Stars, which enjoyed $8.2 million last night along with big weekend pre-sales to go along with its share of praise from critics. Laremy went well under the $38.5 million tracking, while readers went over at $39.9 million, making for an interesting weekend. On top of that, Maleficent is still in the game and could provide for a heated race at the top of the box office.
I’ve included Laremy’s predictions and the average reader predictions directly below and I’ll be back on Sunday with box office estimates. To see Laremy’s full list of predictions and all 90 reader predictions for this weekend click here.
