Rumor: Ridley Scott Scouting ‘Prometheus 2’ Locations in Australia

UPDATE: The Telegraph disagrees with the Daily Mail report saying Scott is scouting for The Martian, a film he will direct starring Matt Damon. The original article follows…

Word from The Daily Mail is that Ridley Scott is in Australia scouting locations to shoot Prometheus 2, which is currently expected to hit theaters on March 4, 2016.

Of course, it’s not confirmed he’s down under scouting Prometheus 2, but it does make sense as the narrative from Prometheus ended by departing one alien world, headed toward another. Iceland, where the first film was shot, has become a go-to location for many films eying alien terrain — Christopher Nolan‘s Interstellar among them — so finding something a little different would be a nice decision. It might be interesting if it fully departed from the tone and locations of the previous films and took to the Outback, getting a little dusty.

Michael Fassbender recently confirmed he’ll be returning as the android character David as well as rumors there may be more than one David on screen at once.

Michael Green (Green Lantern) was recently tapped to rewrite the first draft of the screenplay by Jack Paglen (Transcendence) with word the film “aims to be much Alien-y’ and in line with the terrifying tone of past films in the [Alien] franchise.”

Noomi Rapace is also expected to return as Elizabeth Shaw.

When the film will actually shoot, however, is up for debate. Scott has Exodus: Gods and Kings in theaters later this year and several films, as always, on his plate.
