Disney and Marvel have released a few new pictures from Guardians of the Galaxy, three of which feature Karen Gillan (Oculus) as Nebula and many featuring Chris Pratt as Peter Quill (aka Star-Lord). Granted, a few of these you may have seen previously, but I believe at least five of them are entirely new.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is set for release on August 1 and expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill (Pratt) finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan (Lee Pace), a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits — Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper), a gun-toting raccoon, Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista). But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand — with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.
The box office result of this one is going to be interesting considering it’s a new property, and while there will be some continuity with The Avengers, mostly in the future, the success of this film will prove an interesting example of just how long Marvel’s reach is.
