This weekend it seems entirely likely The Other Woman will take the top spot from Captain America: The Winter Soldier after three straight weeks at #1, and I think it’s going to do it at a higher clip than both Laremy and the readers have predicted. Laremy went quite low at $16.5 million and the readers went closer to tracking with $19 million, but I don’t see anything less than $20-21 million this weekend for this movie if not higher. After all, how long has it been since a movie for the female audience hit theaters?
The weekend’s other new release that was on the prediction board is the Paul Walker-led Brick Mansions of which, once again, Laremy went well below tracking, possibly giving the readers the edge as the reader average is $1.3 million higher than Laremy at $8.5 million.
Next we have a couple holdovers beginning with Heaven is for Real, which opened like gangbusters last weekend, which does suggest something of a larger drop than God’s Not Dead experienced, but just how large? Readers predict an $11.9 million sophomore weekend, $1.3 million higher than Laremy. I think I’m leaning more in the readers’ direction on this one.
Then there’s Transcendence, flopping around on the deck ready for the knockout punch and the one film on the board where the readers went below Laremy’s prediction by a slight margin, but when you’re predicting a film to finish with only $4.5 million, $300,000 is actually quite a bit of money.
