Charlie Brown and Snoopy in First Pictures from CG Animated ‘Peanuts’ Movie

I’d forgotten this movie was in the works, and probably for good reason as the 3D, CG-animated Peanuts feature, bringing the late Charles Schulz’s comic strip back to life on the big screen won’t hit theaters until November 6, 2015, but USA Today has revealed the first two pictures of from the film and I’m not sure if it’s what you’d expect… not in a bad way at all.

Directed by Steve Martino (Horton Hears a Who!, Ice Age: Continental Drift), the plot details on the film are being kept under wraps, but familiar characters beyond Charlie Brown and his dog Snoopy, such as Pig-Pen and Peppermint Patty (and I’d expect Lucy too) will all be featured.

This is the first “Peanuts” feature since 1980’s Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown (and Don’t Come Back!!), which I’ve seen but had entirely forgotten even existed. “We’re going to fly with Snoopy in his fantasy world,” Martino told USA Today. “We have a bigger canvas. Bill Melendez got Snoopy off the ground in the TV specials. We’re going to take it a step further.”

Perhaps the best news from the article is when producer Paul Feig says the “sweet optimism” of the original material remains while adding, “Snoopy will not be rapping, no one will be twerking, we’re in good hands.” There’s a little something for the win column.

The pictures have an interesting look to them, like something between your traditional animated film and their comic strip source. I’ll be really interested to see how this all comes together as I would assume neither of these pictures are actual frames from the film.
