Paula Patton Cast in Lead Role for Duncan Jones’ ‘World of Warcraft’ Movie

It’s a little disappointing in my eyes that Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) ha turned to a big budget video game adaptation for his junior effort, but I guess in today’s world you direct small movies so you can get that big pay day and make big ones. That being the case, Jones has turned his attention to Warcraft, an adaptation of the Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft role-playing game franchise’s fantastical universe, revolving around the epic conflict between the opposing forces of the Horde and the Alliance.

Legendary was originally set to release the film in 2015 through Warner Bros. but with the two studios parting ways it will most likely end up at Universal and it seems the pieces are coming together as Paula Patton (2 Guns, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol) has landed the lead role with Colin Farrell currently competing for another lead role. No word on what characters they would be playing and Farrell is said to be 50/50 on whether he’ll officially be cast.

Blood Diamond scripter Charles Leavitt wrote the screenplay, which will bring together everything from dragons and zombies to elves and werewolves. Production gets underway in January so I expect we’ll be hearing a lot more about this one over the coming months.
