Jared Harris is racking up one hell of a filmography as of late in terms of size, but not all the films have exactly been top notch, especially films such as Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows and the most recent, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, and he’s now signed on to once again team with his Sherlock helmer as well as play opposite Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt in the upcoming remake of Poltergeist.
We’ll begin with the Poltergeist remake, which will be directed by Monster House helmer Gil Kenan, with a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize-winning writer David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole). The film, a remake of the classic 1982 film, will again center on a family whose young daughter is connected with supernatural spirits through a dead channel on the television, trapping her in the netherworld between life and death.
According to Deadline, Harris will play Carrigan, a larger than life TV personality who left the world of academia behind to become the star host of basic cable TV show “Haunted House Cleaners”. Kyle Catlett has also joined the cast and will play son to Rockwell and DeWitt’s characters.
As for the The Man from U.N.C.L.E. casting, filming will get underway on September 9 with Guy Ritchie at the helm. A new take on the popular 1960s television series, the film will star Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) as Napoleon Solo opposite Armie Hammer (The Lone Ranger) as Illya Kuryakin.
Set against the backdrop of the early 1960s, at the height of the Cold War, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. centers on CIA agent Solo and KGB agent Kuryakin. Forced to put aside longstanding hostilities, the two team up on a joint mission to stop a mysterious international criminal organization, which is bent on destabilizing the fragile balance of power through the proliferation of nuclear weapons and technology. The duo’s only lead is the daughter of a vanished German scientist, who is the key to infiltrating the criminal organization, and they must race against time to find him and prevent a worldwide catastrophe. Alicia Vikander, Elizabeth Debicki, Harris and Hugh Grant co-star.
The Man From U.N.C.L.E. is looking to hit theaters in 2014 with Poltergeist eying a 2015 release.
