Rooney Mara Joins Blanchett in Todd Haynes’ ‘Carol’

Rooney Mara is certainly one of Hollywood’s goto actresses at the moment and she has a great eye for roles. Recently we’ve seen her in David Fincher‘s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Steven Soderbergh‘s Side Effects and David Lowery‘s Ain’t Them Bodies Saints. Next she stars opposite Joaquin Phoenix in Spike Jonze‘s Her, which will be followed up by a role in Stephen Daldry‘s Trash. Now just go ahead and add Todd Haynes‘s next film, Carol, to that list as well.

Based on Patricia Highsmith‘s book “[amazon asin=”B004RCNW4I” text=”The Price of Salt”]”, Carol revolves around two women from different backgrounds who strike up a relationship in 1950s New York. One a young woman (Mara) working in a department store and hoping for a better life, the other a wife (Cate Blanchett) trapped in a loveless marriage and desperate to break free, but fearful of losing her daughter in the process.

Mara is replacing the once-attached Mia Wasikowska.

The Weinstein Co. is already set to distribute the picture after acquiring the rights at the Cannes Film Festival.
